PEOPLE FIRST PRESS STATEMENT

'JODIE AND MARY' CASE

"We are disappointed that the judgement will not be challenged in the House Of Lords. We believe this will set a worrying precedence where doctors will be able to go to court and force parents to let their disabled babies die against their wishes. There were areas of concern we felt were not satisfactory addressed by the courts, which we hoped would, had been addressed by the Law Lords. Firstly a baby’s right to life being determined by standardised "child developmental" tests. Mary was described as being severely brain damaged and through her condition will have learning difficulties. Secondarily, Was early separation of the twins strictly based on Jodie potentially having a heart attack or Mary preventing her from developing normally? Thirdly, where all the options seriously explored for Mary to have a heart and lung transplant?."

"We are concerned increasingly more so that babies lives will be determined by doctors and their tests which measure so called intelligence and body functions."

I will be available tonight and Friday for interviews on 0208-459-5717.
