I'm getting increasingly worried about the language that is being used by those "professionals" who are supporting the move to separate the twins. I realise that the twins only have a single heart and lungs between them and that they're not expected to live long if they aren't separated, but already they have identified one twin as being the stronger of the two with the "right" to live at the expense of its "weaker" sibling. Their whole arguement seems to be based around this "right" and they seem to have already written off the "weaker" twin with no apparent debate about how this other baby could be saved. "Non viable" was one expression I heard used ... For me this is a sad reflection of how many of these professionals still perceives us crips as the weaker and non-viable members of society, not really deserving of any real time or investment. Or am I just getting more cynical in my old age ?! Dave Lupton aka Crippen |
