I watched a programme on Channel 4 last night re the conjoined twins. This was a reconstruction of the courtroom drama.... Only at the end did the programme say anything about the fact that the twins "may" now live for yrs. Their words quoted. Nowhere was anything included from the disabled people's movement. No where was any comment given to the wider implications of the end result of this Fridays judgement. The wider implications for disabled people in the future and their right to life has been silenced. Its NOT just about Jodie and Mary its about the future of ALL disabled people and their right to life and the support they will need to have a "quality" of life. This is sod all to do with impairment but ALL to do with the social, physical, mental and financial barriers they will face if we do not put this whole issue into the context of Human Rights!
