CHANGING PERPSECTIVES PRESS RELEASE

HIGH COURT CHALLENGE

MARY RIGHT TO FULL JUSTICE AND LIFE

Changing Perspectives supports the move for the High Court judge to consider whether Lawrence Oates acted in the best interests of Mary, the twin that St Mary’s Hospital wants to let die. Up to now Jodie and Mary in our opinion have not had equal access to medical and legal support to keep them both alive by both the hospital and the lawyers.

Simone Aspis who has been following the plight of the twins Jodie and Mary’s equal rights to life says :

"We do not feel the solicitors did everything possible to ensure Mary was given every chance of life. Even at the Court Of the Appeal Lawrence Oates should had asked St Marys and Great Ormand Street doctors many questions about their efforts of keeping Mary alive and whether they really know how long the twins can keep alive. One has to ask whether Lawrence Oates was really there for Mary if he took into account the wishes of the parents when making a decision to go to the House of Lords. We think Mary should be supported to have the right to go to the highest courts and demand justice."

Changing Perspectives hopes that the High Court judge will make a decision allowing Mary the right to continue her fight for justice and life to the House of Lords and even to the European Courts of Human Rights.

Changing Perspectives is fighting for the rights and lives of disabled people and provides training and consultancy services.

Simone Aspis (Changing Perspectives, People First, GLAD and Jodie and Mary’s Equal Right To Life Campaign member) will be at the High Court on Friday for any interviews.
